The Birthing Center

Bringing a new life into the universe is an unequaled, almost divine experience ‒ one you will cherish all your life.

The Birthing Center at Andalusia Health is here to make sure your experience is memorable and special, for all the right reasons. Our mission is to care for you and your growing family, whether you choose natural labor with pain management (plus skilled coaching, movement, and relaxation techniques), prefer the option of epidural anesthesia, or want to schedule an induction of labor or a c-section through your healthcare provider.

Amenities

The Center offers five labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum (LDRP) suites that keep you and your baby in the same room, supporting your autonomy and the sanctity of your birthing experience.

Each room comes with a rocker for mom, a couch sleeper and flat-screen TV for dad, and a baby cot for your new little one. We “room-in” ‒ meaning your baby stays with you ‒ to support early bonding and reduce stress for you and your baby.

Babies Are Our Business

Andalusia Health welcomes hundreds of babies into the world every year. As Covington County's primary provider of obstetrics and gynecology services, we provide an environment that is warm, comforting, and especially welcoming to new family members. We pride ourselves on offering the support, education, and empowerment to help women meet their own health goals throughout pregnancy and help them achieve the birth they envision.

This care is provided in a safe, “best of both worlds” environment ‒ a birthing center located within a hospital setting. Our very low incidences of primary c-sections and practically non-existent maternal morbidities are a testament to our high-quality care. Andalusia Health has even been recognized by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for outstanding quality in maternity care.

Let Us Take Care of You

Intentional Rounding – Your safety, comfort, and healing are our top priority. We will visit you every hour and provide the care that is needed at that moment (we won't wake you if you’re sleeping. We will ask questions about pain, positions, personal needs, personal environment, and provide education related to your stay. If at any time you need anything, please let us know.

Patient Rounding – Each morning, our healthcare team will visit your room to discuss your condition and develop a plan for the day. We believe in patient and family-centered care, and your family's involvement is a key ingredient in developing your plan.

Rooming In – During your stay at Andalusia Health, your baby will stay with you, in your room, 24 hours a day, unless medically necessary.  There are many benefits to "rooming in" for both you and your baby.

Quiet Time – Noise increases stress and anxiety and is an obstacle to rest and healing. Andalusia Health has developed specific quiet times to promote healing and rest for both baby and mom.
