Health Equity

Andalusia Health is part of ScionHealth and an active participant in the company’s National Quality Strategy (NQS), which promotes and measures hospital excellence over the six domains of healthcare quality established by the Institute of Medicine. One of those domains, “Equitable” care, challenges our hospital to ensure that all patients have the opportunity to achieve their highest health potential, regardless of socially determined circumstances.

Since the launch of this NQS in 2023, Andalusia Health has created a Health Equity Committee that includes community representation, identified at least one disparity in the provision of health services, and worked to address such social determinants of health.

Examples of our efforts include participation in several community activities to address food insecurity, such as volunteering for “Full-Tummy Pack Night,” sponsoring the children’s “Apple Program,” and holding a food drive in July that will support the CSC food bank.

Food insecurity and transportation are two of the biggest disparities that Andalusia Health has identified that impact health services in our community. Andalusia Health has coordinated with local organizations to assist with registering patients ‒ especially elderly, heart-failure patients ‒ to receive monthly food stipends if needed. The hospital also provides education to our “Adult Activity Members Club” to promote healthy eating as well as activities ‒ such as a recent dance ‒ with healthy meals provided.
